ISO 17021 Changes the
Rules
The rules for IAF accredited quality
and environmental registrars will change in March 2008,
as ISO 17021 replaces guides 62 and 66. ISO 17021
addresses the entire registration process and services
provided by registrars - from audit planning to audit
reporting, from conflict of interest analysis to the
configuration of the audit program, including schedules
for surveillance.
Platinum is already working to change our processes
so we can conform with the changed requirements before
the 2008 deadline. If you are not a Platinum client, ask
your registrar what their plan is for addressing ISO
17021. | |
Internet Sources of Quality Management
Information
With its ever-growing content, there is no excuse
for leaving your keyboard to find vast libraries of
information on quality management. We've listed some of
our favorites below. Please contact
us if you have suggestions for other places we
should go to shop for quality management system
publications.
Visit the Iowa
Quality Center Library to search thousands of
publications, all available for loan to members of the
Iowa
Quality Center. Their vast repository includes
books, tapes, videos, and CD-ROMs. (And they tell us you
don't have to live in Iowa to join the club.)
Praxiom.com
maintains a list they proudly tout as, "ISO Standards
Translated into Plain English." Now that's an idea that
cannot be argued against. Their libraries include
information beyond the basic ISO 9001, and into industry
specific requirements such as medical devices (ISO
13485), information security (ISO 27001), and software
(ISO 90003).
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) has arrived at ASQ.org.
Have the latest quality industry news delivered to your
RSS reader by following ASQ's
directions. It's the best way to see the latest news
from ASQ delivered hot off the
press. | |
Ask the Expert
- Convincing Top Management
Management system consultants work all day to
convince top management ISO 9001 registration is worth
the effort and expense. This month, we hear from
consultants how they approach this very difficult topic.
Q: "I know there is a benefit to becoming registered
to ISO 9001, but I am not able to convince top
management. What methods do you use to convince top
management ISO 9001 will provide a benefit worth the
time and effort to prepare for registration?"
